Scheduling document runs

Synk includes the capability to automatically run your Synk documents at specified times.

To do this, Synk includes a scheduler which wakes up once an hour to see whether any documents need to be run, and runs them if so. When you first enable scheduling for any document, you will need to enter an administrator password so that the scheduler can be installed. Once this is done once, you will not need to do this again unless you upgrade Synk or reinstall your OS.

To schedule your document, select which days and at which hours you wish the document to run. For your changes to take effect, you must save the document.

The scheduler will not run documents if Synk is open. This prevents problems where you might be trying to edit a document while it is trying to run it in the background--a hazardous proposition.

It is highly recommended that log saving be enabled for scheduled documents, as otherwise you will have no feedback as to whether a background scheduled run succeeded or failed. Learn more about logging.

Important: The scheduler will try to run the documents with whatever copy of Synk the operating system associates with the name "Synk." If there is more than one copy of Synk present, the operating system may not launch the copy of Synk which you intend. For the best reliability, you should only have one copy of Synk present on your system. (A similar problem can occur if the operating system can't find your copy of Synk, but this is a much more rare problem.)

Some users prefer to use other methods of scheduling runs. Click here for more info.
